Lenders may require verification of income. If proof of income is requested, lenders are typically looking at two factors – The amount you have earned and the sources of the income.

Hourly/Salary Employees
Typically needs to provide pay stubs for the last two pay periods. If it’s the beginning of the year, a W-2 from the prior year might also be requested.

Freelance / Contract Employees
If you’re a freelance or contract worker and receive multiple 1099s from several companies, most lenders will generally request to see tax returns instead.

Self-Employed
Lenders will typically request the last two years’ tax returns.
